Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer, with high mortality and a high correlation to inflammation. IL-1β is a major pro-inflammatory cytokine that induces local and systemic pro-inflammatory cascades, which promote cell infiltration into tumor sites. We are using the model of orthotopic injection of murine CRC cells into Wild Type mice or mice deficient in IL-1β, to assess the role of IL-1β, in the development of local tumors. In addition, we are trying to learn about liver metastasis pathway using an intra-splenic injection model.
